Your first visit
How a visit works
- 1
Ask for a time
Use the appointment form or call. We confirm by phone or email within one working day, sooner if your pet is unwell.
- 2
Settle in
Cats and rabbits wait in a quiet room away from dogs. Dogs get a treat at the door, unless they are fasting for surgery.
- 3
Talk it through
The vet explains what they found in plain words and gives you a written estimate before any test or treatment.
Worried about your pet right now?
Call us before you drive over, so the team can get ready for you. These signs need a vet the same day:
- Trouble breathing or pale, blue-grey gums
- A swollen, tight belly or retching with nothing coming up
- Eating chocolate, xylitol gum, antifreeze, or lilies for cats
- A male cat straining in the litter box
- A rabbit that hasn’t eaten or pooped for 12 hours
- A seizure, collapse or a fall from a height
Around the harbour
A neighbourhood clinic for the whole harbour
We see pets from all over the Halifax area:
- Halifax peninsula
- North End
- South End
- Clayton Park
- Fairview
- Spryfield
- Dartmouth
- Bedford
Winter brings salty sidewalks and cracked paw pads. Spring brings ticks, which stay busy in Nova Scotia until the ground freezes. We’ll help you plan for both.
Our name comes from the steep-roofed saltbox houses along the Nova Scotia coast: plain, sturdy and built to keep everyone warm.
